Growout Tanks

we sucessfully bred bettas on a number of occassions for far less money than stated by faith. more important than money is time, if you have the time then it's relatively easy.

See, this is why I'm saving up, I could use the money I have right now, but I don't have alot of time on my hands.
By April I should.

I never thought of using a crate as a grow out tank *ponders* yes, yes its a great idea  You can get these extra durable ones for about £6 near me. They are humungous too, so lots of room for fry.

Might i also suggest a rope handled horse bucket (link below). These are big buckets that are very strong (use them on the yard i go to) and its MUCH easier to carry heavy water with handles like that than any other way i know lol. Just a thought.

Just a tip i heard recently for when you need to start separating your babies - use 2L fizzy drink bottles with the top bits cut off. They are free (if you steal them from the recycling hehe) and easy to get your hands on.

Good luck!

PS - Durkbat: perhaps ask for your list to be stickied? Its a great list and people should be directed to it. Its a bit long to post in threads, and deserves its own :)

That's a great bucket, Sadie, and I agree that handles would make transporting it, if you needed to, much easier. The only drawback I can see to using it as a growout tank is you wouldn't be able to see your babies, except from the top. The advantage to clear containers is you get a great side view, and consequently can see right away when the babies begin to display aggression.

opposite armor, it sounds like the clear crates you've found would suit your purpose just as well as a tank, for a fraction of the price. Do you have a link to a pic of them, or a product like them? I might be interested in finding something similar.

I just had a good look at Wal Mart and the only bins that are big enough there are not clear. The clear ones only get up to abut 22 gallons. I wonder where else I could look for big, clear bins.. :dunno:

Well, 22 gallons aren't that bad, you just get too.

I'll post a pic of what they look like later, I have to take pictures of them.

Sadly, I live in Minnesota, USA

If you want cheap, large containers for fish & don't care about the appearance so much, take a trip to the local junk yard. Pull the liners out of old refrigerators. Seal the openings with aquarium sealant.

It works, one lfs owner started that way years ago in his parents basement.

You know, I might be wrong....But I could have sworn someone already told you to stop posting that particular bit of information...since you don't put the origin of it...seeing how it's not your own material. -_-

You do not seem to be posting that to be nice..it would appear to most everyone that the intent is to be smartellic in posting it...the wording alone leads you to that conclusion.
