Back in Nov/dec I was handed this little featherfin, skinny, chewed fins very shy
sad.png

A couple of months in quarantine he was moved to another tank, as you can see he had quite a belly by this time.

Now no longer shy and has grown into his belly lol and nearly doubled in size.

and his "feathers" are stunning.

Wow, hes beautiful! Hes really lucky you got to him, no hes stunning.

:)

I like these types of pics, a sort of before and after. Just lovely!

Wow, that syno has come on leaps and bounds in your care, good job! :)

Thanks all :) its nice to have a success occasionally, too often I end up with fish beyond hope :(

Makes me want to get a featherfin actually haha, do they seem really big and beefy?

I have to be honest, I had no interest in keeping him and advertised him free to collector. They are/can be very aggressive particularly with other fish, he went into 6 different tanks, upsetting most of my fish before I ended up putting him in with my oscar. I fully believed my oscar would attack the catfish, my oscar is not a lover of other fish at all. However they get along really well lol

If you have room for one they are an absolutely stunning fish, I wouldnt part with him now.

Wow, he's quite a tank isn't he? Great to see his improvement since you got him. Nice to see big fish given the care they deserve. :good:

What fish in particular did he be mean to?

Previous owner had him with community fish, he ate neons & platies, here he terrorised ....
My other oscar (rescue and small at 10")
chocolate cichlid 9"
Urau 10" & 9"
Severums 9" &8"
Texas 6"
A. Tetremerus 10"
A. Metae 6" male but left the female alone
True parrot (the TP did take a chunk out of the catfish) 12-14"
Clown loach gang largest 9"
red tailed black shark 6"
Plecs of similar size, but he did leave my 20" plec alone

The size of the fish made no difference, but he never bothered my large oscar, well only to tickle him as in the vid.

TT. I dont think he has quite finished growing yet!

Well, maybe it is related to personality as well? I was thinking about getting a decorus, angelicus or a featherfin but im not sold on their size, hiding and stories of aggression :/

I honestly cannot help you there. This chap was in poor condition from a small over crowded tank, which may have led to him being so aggressive around my other fish but he didnt feel threatened by being in with just a single oscar after he/she realised there was not so much competition for food, that maybe a factor but I am only going on the observation of this one. He is the only one I have had.
