My Java Ferns are beginning to sprout tiny plantlets on the ends of the leaves.

Is it easy to propagate new plants from these? If so what is the best way?

Cheers.

Yea just pull them off when they are big enough.

Some I pulled off when they were tiny and they grew and some I've pulled off when they are large (I'd probably suggest wait until they get big enough so that you can do something with them) and then just tug them off.

Thanks for your reply.

How big is big enough? At the moment they are about 1/2 to 1cm long. And I presume should they be attached to rock or wood like adult plants?

You could take them off now, but they'd probably take a while to get a hold of their environment being so small. If you get them over an inch and put them in your tank substrate (not the rhizome) or propagate them you can let them grow a few inches and then stick/tie them onto whatever :good: the advantage of them growing a bit more is also that there root system will develop, and thats what you want to be planting aka the brown bits not the green ones lol

I ripped a few off my Java ferns as soon as they started growing super glued them to a plant pot and they haven't grown much at all in 2 months maybe to around an inch... however those tiny ones have also sprouted more off which is odd to me!

I have such a plantlet myself and its about an inch now excluding roots, but the roots are an inch and developing well. Im just leaving it a bit longer before I put it on the bogwood. I noticed that someone said "superglued" to plant pot. What do you mean? I usually just use fishingline or rubber bands. Can you really glue them?

Yep, using superglue - cyanoacrylate being the one you want (it will say on the back) you can stick plants to wood/rock/pots etc.

I prefer it because its eaiser to do in my opinion, fish and shrimp won't catch on it. Although it will turn white under water if you do it right you won't be able to see it :good:
