h guys i have recently been cultivating my own mosquito larvae revently but they have been more successfull in mercky smell water, i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how i could keep them in cleaner water or serperate them from their water before adding them to my tank?

they naturally live in puddles and small stagnent ponds and buckets things like that ive got a 2ft tank outside to grow some plants in while its nice and there is thousands in there i just scoop them out in a net and put them in a coffe filter paper and slowly run water over them to clean them up a bit before they get fed to the fish, you might struggle to keep them in a nice clean filtered tank they need still stinking water lol

coffee filter is a good idea, yeah i didnt think i could grow them any otherwya really, i had been scooping them out and then sifting them from container to container but this was time consuming.....

thanks

I keep mine (midge larvae) in 25 litre drums with the tops cut off, they are initially filled with tap water and are inseminated with horse manure and left to mature under a tree line.
I just creep up to the butts and scoop out what I need with an aquarium net, I then rinse the midge larvae under a tap before feeding to the fish.

I just have a plain tub approx 30L and use tap water to refill every so often and the mossies are thriving in it water is crystal clear and doesn't smell.

Scoop them out with a brine shrimp net and run them under cool water before feeding.
