For the bettas, you can use the hanging filter. To cut the current you can take an empty plastic water bottle, remove the paper, cut off both ends, then cut the remaining center part down one side ( so it will lay flat). Then tape one end to the top of the filter, and slide the other end under the lip. That makes the current go to either side, instead of straight across.

dthoffsett, Thank you for the advise. I'll try that.

fishkiller_nomore, I guess I have a confession to make. I just put the moss over the substrate recently. I wish it would root itself all over the bottom of the tank. But it doesn't look so good. The moss doesn't have as much of white tips and doesn't look quite healthy as when I first bought it. I guess my temperature is too high (29-31c). Someone told me that with this kind of moss (I can't remember the name) needs at least 26c. Anyhow, it's been only a week or so since I put the moss in, so wish me luck.

About the substrate, the direct transalation would be "vocalnic soil". It's quite soft and when you squeeze it, it turns to dust-like particle. I guess it was imported from Japan, since all the writings on the bag are in Japanese (and I have no idea what the writings say). But it's so amazing! After I put it in, the water is super crystal clear and the yellowish tint you get from wood also disappear.

The more I watch at my long-fin serpaes, the more I've noticed how coo-coo they are. When they see me (dinner!) they would wait patiently and peacefully in school. When I feed them, they would take a bite here and super-turbo dash there for another bite and so on, making the tank so dizzy. And after meal, they would get really territorial and try to kill each other! What a weirdo!

Bret, Thank you. I'm very happy with this loach. He's so small only about 4-5 cms and I think he reached his max growth. As you can see, I like small fish. I used to have another loach. He started out decent size but grew so fast and became too big. He would dash around so fast and knocked down the wood and dig up the plants. The tank was a mess back then. But with this new guy, no problem . I wish I could get him some friends. Though, it's a little funny when seeing him trying to school with other fish. Supposively, his specie is controled. No person shall own more than 3 of them. Old regulation, never get changed, I guess. So it's really difficult to get a hold on.

RadaR, it is indeed algae It came by itself. After seeing the signs of it, I cranked up my lighting and it grew beautifully. When I was repairing the tank, I had to leave the woods outside for weeks and I guess parts were not under the water and some algae died. Now, after putting the woods back in the tank, I've noticed that the parts that were died are now growing again, even more beautifully.
