Hi all,

My sister in law has recently set up a small tank.

She has had no problems since setting the tank up, until now.

She has got green water - we have tried doing water changes, shes even tried green away, and its still not shifting.

Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

How long has the tank been running?

What are the water stats?

Does the tank get any direct sunlight?

what are your phostphate stats? Do you have any live plants?

cant you only have green water if you have live plants?

No, from what I hear, live plants are a deterent to green water, since they use up the same nutrients that the algea would use.

Also, otos and other algae eating plecos, etc - eat algea off of surfaces in your tank, they do not take algae right out of the water.

I've had green water problems twice in my 29 gallon tank. The first time, big water changes got rid of it eventually. The second time, I didnt want to stress the fish too much with big water changes. I tried requent smaller water changes - didn't work. Then I got a phosphate test kit and realized I had quite a bit of phosphate in the water. I got some gravel for the filter that absorbs it. With that, and a couple more water changes, my green water problem went away again.
