I have been tossing around some ideas in my head the last few weeks, and I was thinking of maybe getting a large tank for my living room say 55G. I was hoping to get either one or a pair of green terrors  . The pics I've seen of them are beautiful. So here is my question(s). Is it a bad idea to keep a pair of them in that "small" of a tank? Are there any other new world cichs that will co-exist with one? Is that tank even large enough? Can I keep a cool pleco with one? I haven't yet even thrown this idea at my fiancé so I'm not sure it'll work, but I can still dream right. . .

IMO a 55 is too small for a pair of GTs, but 1 would be fine. You'd be missing out if you didn't keep a pair though, IMO. There are others you can consider - firemouths are very nice, and reaching about 6" a pair would have room to move in the tank, and let you keep more non-cichlids with them.

I can't help but recommend the Nicaraguensis. They're very mildly aggressive, and the males downturned mouth makes him harmless even when he's in a bad mood. His mild nature means more choices of non-cichlids to go with them. They'll do well in a 55 - the male gets up to about 8" and them female tops out at about 5.

well what sized tank is suitable for a pair, I'm also inheriting a 100+G tank first of the year, I hope :D . I am set that the next tank I have will house a pair of green terrors. What's the min you would suggest for a pair? If the tank is large enough, are there any suitable tank mates? Thanks.

LFS Green Terrors max out at 10" where as pure gold saums green terrors hit about the 16" range, i would say a green terror + firemouth + pleco would be fine in a 55g.
