Green tank

It could be free swimming algae in the water or algae on the covers for the lights, making the lights green.

I think water changes will get rid of free swimming algae and you can just clean off the other one.

:)

it's an algae bloom and i completly turned over my tank (aka starting ova) and i didnt kno about cycling back then and um..da problem was solved(da incorrect way) i dont know da real was exept for medications

on and um...i put all my fish in a bucket of tank water

then again THIS IS DA WRONG WAY...

Algae blooms are usually a cause from too much light and too much leftover food. How big is your tank? What kind of filter do you have? How often do you perform your water changes? HOw much do you feed your fish? What kind of fish do you have? If you answer the above questions, people would have a better way of determining what is really going on. So all we can do is just take guesses.

Cleaning your tank from an algae bloom will not get rid of it, unless you have a very sterile environment. Algae are spores. All you need is just one and it will multiply. You can totally clean your tank, filters, decor, substrate with a lite solution of bleach and water. If you forget to clean your net or some other item and you put that into your cleaned tank, you will be back to square one.

Ed,

I have a 10 gal tank with 15 fish, i usually feed twice a day 2 piches of flake food (Nutrafin). I do water changes 1/3 every Saturday morning and cleaning same time. My filter is a Fuval 1 plus (spongue) which I clean every second week in tank water. I have 2 angels, 1 pleco, 2 ghost glass catfish, 1 Ruby shark, 6 neons, 1 bottom feeder (?) and 2 Rainbows.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem and was told it is because of high Phosphates. I have been using the water polisher that came with my filter (H.O.T. Magnum) and that clears it out, but it comes right back. I was told to use a phosphate remover, so I got Phos-X. But i can't fit it into my media container. The Magnum has a D shaped container with a tube running through the center, so I can't fit the Phos-X bag around it.
Are Phosphates the problem? Is there a way to get the Phos-X into the container? Is there something else I could use?
I have a 55 gal, you can see what fish I have in it in my sig, my pH is about 6.8, 0 NO2, about 40 ppm NO3, 0 ammonia, Hardness 50 ppm, alkalinity 0. I don't know what the Phosphate level is I don't have a Phosphate test (the LFS did the test). I did a 20% water change yesterday and have the water polisher in right now.

I'd say you have way too much biomass in that tank! Might very well be the reason for the algae.

After a while the 10g won't even be enough for one angel. You could keep only the glass cats and the neons in it easily.
