Green Star Polyps

Bought a nice rock full of Carpet Xenia Friday, and has not opened up since. All I see at the moment is a pink mat with the individual stars closed up.

Me other corals including Silver pulsing xenia, and elephants ears and other softies are thriving. Water paremeters are all fine. My worry is, if it does not open soon, it will start to die.


Any ideas?

If so mine took a good week to come out after putting them in my tank and it was probably a fortnight before they all came out properly.

I'd double check my salinity against a known standard if it were my tank. Could be possible that your salinity has drifted up and while the established corals are used to it, this new GSP is not...

Yep thats the one.. Dunno why i thought it was carpet xenia..

Salinity is the same as it was before I bought it. But the lfs salinity is much lower compared to mine, maybe i didn`t acclimate it long enough. £35 down the tube ! again.. How long generally do you need to acclimate coral? I acclimated mine for around 6 hours.

one question though, why is your salinity so much higher than your lfs's... what is your actual salinity?

6 hrs should be plenty, we drip acclimitise for maybe 2 hrs then put them in, not lost a coral yet.

6 hrs should be plenty, we drip acclimitise for maybe 2 hrs then put them in, not lost a coral yet.

Hi, mine is 1.025, my lfs is 1.015.. Apparently its done so the fish do not catch itch...

What are you using to measure your salinity? I had one of those plastic swing arm hydrometers and it read lower than what the actual reading was(it said 1.025 and it was actually 1.030). I got a refractometer off ebay(about £29 delivered) which gave me the correct reading and after slowly adjusting the salt levels down to 1.025 everything(fish and corals) looked instantly better/more open. I say this becuse you said the LFS water was lower salinity than yours, thats what I used to think until I got the refractometer
