I have some green neons being delivered this week along with some corys, I will be putting them all into my quarantine tank but don`t know whether it`s better to fill the tank with 'matured' water from my 360ltr or whether I can use fresh dechlorinated water without any detrimental effects.

I always have some extra media in the 360ltr filter so I just take the media from there when I set up the filter for the QT but after reading that the neons are quite sensitive to newly set up tanks I really don`t know what`s best to do for them. Is using the matured media enough?

I would add water from your 360L tank, Im in a similar situation to you, tank arriving tommorow. :good:

Thanks Carl B-)

Normally I set the QT up and use fresh water but as the neons are more sensitive than most I don`t want to risk that I could be doing the wrong thing with them.
Syphon and buckets will be at the ready in preparation for them arriving :D

I`m looking forward to seeing you start your journal and how everything progresses B-)

I've put Green Neons into new, dechlorinated water and not had any problems, if that's of any help. The matured media would be enough, I'm sure, but maybe using old tank water would be better for your peace of mind! They're really lovely fish, one of my favourites, I'm sure you'll enjoy having them :)

(P.S; Only the genus name needs a capital letter, so Paracheirodon simulans is the correct version ;))

Thanks flutter :)

I think as you say, for peace of mind I`ll use water from my other tank to start off with. I`ll do a small wc after a few days with fresh water so they have chance to get used to it. I`m getting 10 of them for my community tank and I`m hoping they`ll be ok with the other fish I have. The biggest fish I have in there at the moment are the Pearl Gouramis so we`ll see. Providing everything goes ok I`ll probably look at adding another 10 later on.
I actually prefer the green neons to any of the other neons B-)

(I have to admit that I copied and pasted the name, lazy I know but I`ll know for next time) ;)

My lfs has some rare Gold Cardinal Tetra, its got a silver and red body and a wonderful yellow gold stripe, IMO better than Green Neons :p

Meh, they sound dull :p I don't like red or gold on fish; they look too much like goldies
(I wonder why they're called Green Neons, btw; they aren't green; they're blue! I like blue ;))

Just had a look at the Gold Cardi`s and they`re not really my cup of tea, quite surprising as Carl and I generally seem to like the same kinds of fish :hyper: :D

The 'Green' neons are blue but they`re more of a kinda turquoisey, greeny blue. not the normal bright blue that you see with the 'blue' neons ;) They`re not the box standard colour that you see everyday in a regular tank which is why I like them so much.......I love being and having things that are different :fun: :fun:

TBH Green Neons are rip-offs, double the price of normal Neons and they practically look the same! -_- :grr:

Nahhh, Greens will beat the pants off the normal blue ones every time for me. Anyway Carl, you know what it`s like.......when something really takes your interest, it doesn`t matter how much more they cost huh? ;)

i was thinking of getting some for my community and maybe mixing them with some regular blues or cardinals.

elise you will have to pop some pics up when they arrive :good:

The Neons should be delivered tomorrow before 1pm....fingers crossed :D

I`ve got a quarantine tank running at the moment so it`ll be ready for when the neons and corys arrive. As soon as I`ve acclimatised them and they`re settled in the tank I`ll get some pics posted.
Depending on the size of the neons I may have to put them in my 35L tank with the crystal red shrimps I bought today as a temporary measure, which means I`ll have to move the Dwarf Rasboras back into the Cherry shrimp tank :shout: :S

One day I`ll stop buying new fish and leave my tanks alone.............Ok, maybe I won`t :p :D

A couple of quick pics while the neons are being acclimatised:

After a couple of weeks in a quarantine tank the neons have finally reached a size where I felt they would be safe in my big tank. Unfortunately one of them died within the first couple of days but the other nine of them are now swimming around with the 'Big Boys' finding their fins :D :D

I didn`t think they looked especially green, (more a pale green) until they went into the big tank but seeing them alongside the regular neons already in there, they definitely do look to be a lovely green B-)
