hi

I've fallen totally in love with green neon tetras after researching man types of fish.. but i cant find them anywhere.. dose anyone know where i can get them?

I live in Tring, (not too far from watford, milton keynes, Hemel Hempstead area), and would really prefer to get them from a shop, i really don't like the idea of fish in the post (has anyone had an experience with this?)

thanx loads - Cat

Hey, i live in Coventry and travelled to Northampton today to visit both MA's, and i'm pretty sure one of them had green neons. Can't recall which though, it might be a little too far for yourself to travel to anyway. Little over an hours drive i would have thought. Thats where i saw some, if its of any help.

They are rather beautifull little tetras, much nicer than their blue counter-parts. They look magnificent in a tannin stained amazon biotope tank also, i've seen such a display tank locally to myself before now.

I'd ask in the shops if they can order them in; they're not a rare or uncommon fish; it should be easy for an LFS to get some in for you.

I've got a shoal of 42 and they are gorgeous; much nicer than normal neons or cardinals, IMO (but I don't like red fish; too much like goldies :$)

Buying fish by post is fine (how do you think they get to the LFS in the first place?!); you just need to spend extra time acclimatizing the fish and keeping them dark and quiet.

I hope you do manage to get some; they really are a stunning fish; you've got very good taste ;)

I have to disagree.

Most fish are delivered by wholesalers to LFS, not many console trops direct into the country and as such all the hard work is already done with them and they are then delivered on a single vehicle by that wholesaler and would have been packed early that morning. Those that do console as we used to collect their boxes from the airports or have them couriered directly within an hour or 2 at most of landing.

That's in stark contrast to fish being packed in the afternoon by the shop, given to a carrier and that box being transferred via no less than another 4 vehicles in a typical hub & spoke carrier system before it gets to you 18-24 hours later!

We will ship corals and inverts by carrier but not fish, I think that's placing profit before the well being of the livestock personally.

As per the original OP, we can get any fish in to order as should any LFS so ask your local store. I too like the Green Neons which are more chunky than the box standard Blue Neon.
