I have heard of the phrase HOB many times but im afraid its not a term i am familiar with either )

It's probably Hang On Back - as in filter/skimmer etc.

yeah this is the same thing happening to me so i didn't know that i could take the rock out and scrub it and that so i'm going to start as soon as possable, also think i'll get some rowaphos, and try that.
