ok ive tried to do research on the net, grrrrrrr im getting so confused with conflicting information :S one site is saying a female doesnt have a gravid spot untill they are pregnant, then someone will come up with they are alway present in a female but get darker and larger when nearing birth, can someone please make this clear? Im not new to fish keeping i have kept fish for around 5years on and off but really getting back into it,before if they had babies they did if they didnt i wasnt really bothered to be honest,i only knew there was babies when they swam passed waving at me lol but now my partner has moved in and ive managed to convert her into tropical fish keeping instead of goldfish (of which we have two)

Gravid spots develop regardless of a female's being pregnant. The darken, and expand when the fish is impregnated.

yeah i believe to not find a gravid spot is very uncommon
i think 24-7 they have a really light spot, then when their pregnant it gets darker and darker, and then turns black, she gets bigger, etc.
i think...
