I was wondering how good are the battery operated gravel vacs are. Has anyone got one/use one?

They are very good. I use mine between water changes if needed, I have a Common Pleco so I do use it quite often. The only drawback is having to buy the little bags. I got a tip on here to cut up tights (pantyhose) and use that instead. You can also attach some tubing and start off a water siphon if you want. I did that today. Although that was a bit noisy and the fish didn't like it much, they soon got over it. :)

Has anyone got or tried a mains gravel vac that sits on the side of the tank when you are using it?

I have a battery operated one but really can't be fussed to use it as it makes the water cloudy for a good couple of hours at least - I don't like that

I have a PGR 1000 Power Gravel Cleaner, which you hang on the side. I like it and it does a good job of cleaning and it is easy to use.

It does make the water slightly cloudy for a while but that doesn't bother me because i do it the same day i do the water change.
