Hi,
I have been busy today, changed my substrate from Dorset Pea Gravel to Sand (Argos Playsand) the whole process took me 2 hours to complete, which I dont think is too bad.

Here are the pics, what do you think?

Thanks for looking.

Lol, I'm so impressed with the clarity of the water. You must've done some very impressive washing!
It looks great.

yep looks good mate.

Cant wait to see a picture with the same quality as the before pic

Yeh lol, took the after pic on my phone, lol!

Thanks for all the comments. The sand did not actually take that much washing. :good:

Really good looking. When I had my tank overalled a few years back I decided to go for a black sand.

One thing, how easy/hard are you finding it to clean using a gravel cleaner? I've found I can't. I have to use a narrow mouth tube and slowly skim off any waste build up.

I have only put it in today so have not cleaned it yet, cant be that hard though, just hover over it.

To clean just wave the hose in a circular motion obove the sand and the deitrus will rise and get sucked into the tube.

hey mike

that looks cool.

its amazing how a change in substrate can make the tank look so my brighter and bigger

i will have to take a proper peek at it when i bring your pot back

that looks superb!!!

i too went from a change from gravel substrate to argos play sand, but i found argos play sand to bright and un-natural so i opted for a more natural looking sand with black bits in.

as for cleaning, i use a sucker which is run off the air pump, you just waft it over the top of the sand and it floats up and gets sucked in and the it falls into a little bag which is attached, dead easy to use an hadrly any sand sucked up by it neither :good:

The best bit is it only needed one bag of sand so cost a whopping £2.68 for the entire tank! :hyper:

Looking great, mate (that is what you say, mate, right?)
I also did a change today, I went from crappy rainbow acrylic rocks to "Stoney River" gravel from Wal-Mart (Which actually isn't half bad)

I really like the change. I moved from Gravel (Black and White) to Pool Filter Sand. As others have said it looks so much brighter and cleaner. Just watch for compacting and give it a good mix during water changes for those gases :good:
