Gravel over sand????

well i hate gravel it annoys me
sand just looks cooler and i think the fish would like it better
no i dont have a biowheel filter

plus i want sand because im gettin a large tank with small sting rays and rays need sand so i think i should learn how to take care of it b4 i get the rays

crushed coral would raise you ph/hardness and calcium. if your fish are not accustomed to living in these conditions, they would likely die

A lot of fish species prefer sand. Particularly when it comes to keeping lower-water fish with delicate appendages; ie cory cats w/ their sensitive barbels.

However, plants will prefer something like florite more . . .
