Gravel For Krib

what color is the best for them or what should i consider when deciding on a gravel for them.
Fish don't see color the same way we do, so to them, they don't care if it's neon yellow or bright purple. HOWEVER, they do tend to be happist on NATURAL tones of gravel with some variation in the color. Kribs, especially if you're plannning to breed them, will "mouth" the substrate a LOT--pick it up in their mouths to move it around, dig out a nest, etc. So for them it's important to get a gravel with a really small grain that they can pick up a mouthful of easily, and a gravel that hasn't been painted.

The common gravels you see (in all colors) have a pretty large grain that I wouldn't recommend for kribs. A lot of stores will have a "natural" gravel sold in bulk (by the pound) that's a much finer grain, almost like large sand. Sand also works great in a krib tank, in fact probably better than gravel. I moved my kribs from fine gravel onto sand, and the behavioural differences are incredible. They're so much more active in feeding, courting, and just about everything else.

sand looks nice but it seems like a pain to me and it would be hard to clean, plus i am about to install an undergravel filter thats why im asking about the gravel. but thanks so much man i appreciate it.

about 5-7 mm sized gravel works best. Give them about 4inches deep of gravel, and I wouldnt suggest undergravel filtration because the fry can get caught under it.

Undergravel isnt the best or most effective solution really, you would be better with a small external or hob filter tbh.

i already have an aquaclear i just want to add the ugf for extra water circulation, oxygenation and to keep the gravel nice and clean. It promotes beneficial bacteria growth. Since i have to take out all the gravel to install it i may as well put the natural color rocks in there, thanks for the help.
