Hi,
I was wondering since I have put live plants into my tank do I need to vacuum it out as much? I know that the plants feed of off the poop in the gravel so how much should i clean it out then. I have a 55 gallon tank with five live plants in it if that helps.

Thanks alot

Parts of my gravel still get cleaned. I have a heavily planted 55 gallon aquarium, and I still vacuum the gravel in certain areas during water changes.

I just vacuum where there are no plants so I don't uproot them, my tank is heavily planted aswell. If you only have 5 plants I would still vacuum as usual and get more plants...................lol.................fish love them

in a 55gal 20 plant is not that much??

I have a 36Gal tank well planted ( to heavily just yet ) and I still vacuum the top of the gravel.
some planted tank has a layer of clay of some sort under a thin layer of fine gravel, these tank is impossible to vacuum..

Also I have some root tablets under the gravel next to my sword when I uproot one when I replant some plant I have a algae bloom the next 3 days, so I need to be extra careful when I vacuum.

so to vacuum or not to vacuum is up to you and the setup of your tank.
