Is there a way in which i can empty my tank and put all my fish in a small tank for a few hours while i change the gravel to substrate, and have the fish back in the same day or will i need to leave it for a few days to sort its self out? As i want to re-do my tank and plant it up again but with substrate this time? Is this ok to do?
Thanks a lot Joemuz

Gravel is a substrate, don't quike understand the question. Sorry.

What exactly are you replacing your gravel substrate with?

Sorry got mixed up. I mean realy fine gravel or sand (if you can put sand in tropical planted tanks?). I thought i was learning too, lol.
Feel realy daft now. :X Thanks Joemuz

Thouroghly clean it / rinse it first then bung it stright in.

How are you going to feed the plants? Your replacement substrate will have nothing in it for the plants to live off...

I took out my gravel with the fish in the tank and then I put sand in a cup with water so it wouldnt float everywhere when u add the sand in ur tank and just pour it out of the cup slowly :good:

I use "playsand" from Argos... £2.49 a bag, LOADS cheaper than LFS ! :good:

Its fine dude! Just rinse it beforehand....

Yes... all I do is fill about a third of a bucket full, stand it outside near a drain and drop the hosepipe in the lot ! give it the odd stir and once the water is clear, its ready !
