Grand National

I'm not against horse racing in general. Overall these animals have wonderful lives (there's a lot of money floating around) and it is in their nature to run but too many risks are taken with their lives. As long as it's carefully regulated let the racing continue but the trend with the Grand National is very very bad.

EDIT: Sorry to put a dampener on everyone's good time lol, I don't mean it like that!

Well Seabass ran well, finishing in third, unlucky Katie Walsh nearly made a nice little after easter bonus there! Highest ever female finish in the national I believe

Well I didn't win anything, my horse fell.
Yes it's very sad about Synchronised & According to Pete, & I understand why people think it's cruel, but the National gets pilloried every year, while all winter long in hurdling & chasing all over the country, both horses & riders get injured.
They don't make the news so no one takes notice.
Believe me, you can't force a horse to race or jump, & every effort is made to make the race as safe as possible

My horse fell at the second fence :grr: West End Rocker

Sorry to be a party pooper guys! I used to bet on the Grand National but I think too many risks are taken with the horses lives. I can't support an event with such a high fatality rate.

You say that, but you have to ask if these horses would even be alive if they weren't racing. That's what they're there for and have been given existence for, it's not like their owners decided to randomly race one day.

I'd prefer a short life than no life at all.

I went in the sweepstakes at work but didn't win anything.

I don't think you read my post properly as I said I no have a problem with the racing industry and I think these horses are meant to run as it's been bred into them over 100s of years. Also thoroughbreds are used for a lot more equestrian sports than racing. My problem is with the unnecessary risks that are taken with their lives and those of the jockeys for that matter. This race has a higher fatality rate than any other by a very long way, why is that? It's because the course is designed in a way to be very difficult and the jockeys are riding dangerously.

The National is no more dangerous than any other chasing courses
It gets more publicity than any other race which is why any fatalities are highlighted.
I'm sure if someone collated all fatalities over the national hunt season, Aintree would be way down the list
5 horses died at the Cheltenham meeting earlier this year
