Gourami's Freakin Out!

i doubt its that what size tank you ahve them in and how big are they atm as they will outgrow ur tank if all 3 get to full size

also if its in ur 12gal tank ur green sevrum will also out grow ur tank and will not get along with ur gourmies but i doubt thats what makes them crazy did u recently do a larger water change the usual? or take a long time doing it?

Yeah they're in my 12G. I know they'll outgrow the tank in a year or so, but I plan to get more tanks by then. I was also assured by the LFS that they would be ok, and they have always offered sound advice.

Did a water change today, and also 2 weeks ago. Usual amount of water and time.

Hi,
In my opinion it sounds like you have a male in with those females! It is very easy to mis-sex the golden gouramis because the only way to look at the dorsal fin and see if it is more rounded or comes to a "sharper point". You definitly have a female in the pictures. I tried to put a female gourami in with my male golden and it would cause both of them to freak out and they too would run into thing either trying to get at each other or away from each other or excited by each other. I had to remove the female and she now has her own tank. My best advice would be so seperate them :/

I had this problem with my pearl gouramis once. It happened after a water change and i think it was because the water was colder than the tank temperature and the gouramis used to always get under the flow of incoming water. They acted exactly as you say your's are for a couple of days and then were back to normal except that ever since then they hide away when i replace water.

Three-spots (of which golds are a color morph), are territorial - even the females. So are severums. Both species are now competing for room and your tank is just far too small for any of them. That's all there is to your problem and their current size is realy irrelevant - they mature rather young. You need to rehome them ASAP as they are perfectly capeable of bullying (or at least stressing) each other to death and you can already see that they are very stressed by their behaviour.
