Gourami Tenticles?

I am just wondering if it is normal for one to be longer than the other?

For a long time they were the same length, about the length of his body, but today I noticed one of them is about 3/4 it's usual size.

Did my angelfish bight it off? And is that a problem?

i dont't hink there' sa problem, he probably got it bitten off by someone else in the tank though i don't know if they grow back.

if i'm thinking right and know what you are talking about, my betta fish has mysteriously been missing one of his for quite some time. when i first got him, both were intact, but now one is gone and doesn't appear to be growing back.. i don't think it's a problem; he seems to be just as happy and active as before.

Yes..it sounds like a case on Angel fish nibbling to me
And yes they do grow back..but it won't as long as the angel fish is around...now he's had a taste he will probably want more and won't leave him alone

if i'm thinking right and know what you are talking about, my betta fish has mysteriously been missing one of his for quite some time. when i first got him, both were intact, but now one is gone and doesn't appear to be growing back.. i don't think it's a problem; he seems to be just as happy and active as before.

Lol, Bettas don't have those things....he's talking about his gourami, they have those long "feelers".

That is kind of wierd.....the angel and the gourami seem to get along fine ... MOST of the time.

I have seen the angel chase him off from time to time, but I have never seen it actually take a nip.

Then other times they "hang out" together with no problems.

Lol, Bettas don't have those things....he's talking about his gourami, they have those long "feelers".

Bettas do have them . They are ventral fins. Gourami's are just longer and more sensitive.

sometimes fish hert them selfs and thay brake off.but don't worry it will grow back. it's happend to me dozens of times to my fish

It will grow back within 6 or so weeks so don't worrry however, if an angelfish bit it off, it might try again when it grows back so my advice would be to keep a close eye on the two fish.

gouramiguy: Are you planning to buy your tinfoil and bala a bigger tank? Both grow quite large and prefer to be kept in small groups

My mistake, I guess I've never thought of them as ventral fins, but you're right

their ventral fins are so long because in the wild the water they live in is murky with low visability, so their long ventrals are used for feeling around

Can they move them? or does the water just move them, because i swear ive seen Three (my red honey gourami) stroking the catfish!!
(he's called three because one if his feelers is split into three, he's special)

yeh they move them to feel around, one of my pearls has one split and looks like she has 3 ventrals

Maybe the other fish feel like the gourami violates their personal space and then they take revenge when the gourami's not looking... I can sometimes see it in my other fishies' eyes that they want to take out the gourami ... or his feelers...
