I have 2 gourami's and 4 neons... One of my gourami's is breathing super hard, it has a big lump on each side of him/her... and is not swimming at all (resting on the ground.)... I have not had a fish die in this tank... I have checked the water etc. The temp is a constant 77 degrees, and I have added salt to the tank w/ Ich fighter just in case....

Could it be spawning?? i have had no experience spawning fish that lay eggs... I have only bread livebearers....

Anyone?
Thanks
Jason

well, yesterday it did have white spots on it, but i do have sand so i was thinking that it could have been sand, but i did not want to take any chances, so i added half of what was recomended....Today the white spots are gone

Okay. I think you have a female. Mine get this. If it is a silvery gray color its a female. It may be carrying eggs and be tired? Or you are feeding it to much. They do bloat and over eat. It can kill them. Plus there is a parasite that can cause this to them. I've kept Dwarf Gouramis for 4 years now and I've seen this before. These are what it could be. If she isn't moving around very much and just sits at the bottom, it is most likely sick and she won't be alive much longer. If possible, quarantine her immediately. Melafix or a parasite remover has always fixed this for me. If you have a pic it is easier to tell whats up. Also try cutting back on the food. Give her some bloodworms sparingly.

I'm not too sure about this... I think it may depend on what kind of gourami jason has.

her fins are right at the peak of the lumps, so they are jsut right behind her head....

Half of her whole body is grey and that fades into orange....

Which of these does it look like?

The have a few different common names. That's what is so confusing about gouramis. :(

Did you cycle your tank?

But yes, she is a dwarf. Just go by what I said. Cut back on feeding and see if the bloating/swelling goes down.

I couldn't tell you if it was a parasite but if you want to take the precaution, get some Melafix from Walmart or an LFS. its about 7 bucks for a bottle of it. It does miracles on treating disease, regrowing fins and healing open wounds.

yes, the tank has been established for about 5 months...

I will take your advice and see if it helps!!!

Thanks
