Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell if my breeding pair of gouramis might be sick? I've had them for a week now. Two days ago, I noticed their gills look a bit off. Both have enlarged gills with a slightly fuzzy appearance, and the male’s gills are very red and seem to have an opening. He’s breathing a bit heavily,. Neither of them is gasping for air, which I usually see with flukes.

They haven’t been treated yet because I got them locally from someone who had them for around 6 months and said they were healthy. Could this be gill disease, flukes, genetics, or something else? I'd really appreciate any advice.

I uploaded videos of them in a breeder box for a more close up view.

Update: After treating with Fritz Paracleanse, their gills look much better and they’re breathing normally! For anyone wondering, the slight opening at the end of their gill covers/flaps is likely genetic in gouramis since it didn't cover the entire gill. It’s not as enlarged as before, and they’re doing just fine now!
