I had two gold gouramis in a 10g that spawned yesterday, so I took out the female whe all the male was doing was chasing her away anytime she even looked at the nest.....so far the male is eagerly taking care of the eggs....I have read alot on the internet, learned alot, but I still have questions that I cant seem to find.

1. Do I remove the male? and if so when?

2. Can I turn of the lights at night, or should I turn them off? Im worried that the temp will drop without the lights on. They spawned at about 84-86 temp. It cools off at night to about 80 in the tank.

3. What is the optimal temp to keep the tank at?

4. How can I create? culture? or make infusoria? I looked on the internet and there was a site that said to take some tank water and add some dried leaves to it and let it sit in the sun for a few days, the water will go cloudy and then I will have infusoria. I have tried this but the water has not gone cloudy yet. I will need to feed the fry in the next day or so.

Any help on these questions is greatly appreciated since this is my first spawn.

I haven't had any gold gourami but I believe they are treated like dwarf gourami.

Question 1........ Yes you do need to take the male out, about 2 days after they spawn.
Questions 2 and 3....... I'm not sure of the optimal temperature but I can tell you that when we breed dwarfs we had to move the nest to another tank and switched off the lights and heater in the breeding tank only to find three days later about 6 very healthy fry happily swimming around in fairly cold water, so I wouldn't worry too much.
Question 4....... Sorry, no idea.

I hope someone else can give you more info.

Good luck.

Hello Princess,
The temp of the water should be 27 to 28 celsius, (or 80 to 82.4 farenheit)
Keep a lid on the tank so that the air above the water is also warm as the fry of labrynth fish have to breathe the air. So you need a gentle disturbance of the surface water..

They are diurnal fish, so lights off at night.
(Lights on 14hrs to keep the plants happy.)
Your heater should keep the heat to the temp you determine is right for the placement of the tank etc.
(Gets complicated doesn't it?)
Take the female out as soon as they are no longer 'coupling' and the male is busy attending the eggs.
Take the male out after a couple of days or he might start eating the hatchlings.
Good luck!

Oh I forgot the food for fry, 'infusoria'; I buy, from the LFS, 'Liquid fry' for egglayers,
learned to hatch Brine shrimps; alternativley, hard boiled egg yoke, squeezed through a wet handkerchief mists the water with protein for the fry to eat, also tropical flakes ground down to a dust by rubbing between finger and thumb :/
Cheers Davejey :)

This is soooo coool, thanks so much for all the advice guys. I was just watching the 1 1/2 day old fry now and they are swimming at the top of the tank. They are soooo tiny. I would take a picture of them if my camera would take pictures of things that small. Dad is still taking care of them. I see him gathering them to a place between the floating plants, if one gets off too far.....boom he is there and placing it back with the others. He does let them venture off for a few seconds though, kinda like he wants to see if they can do it by themselves. I have had livebearers before, but this is different watching them come from eggs, that is for sure. I will probably move the dad tomorrow or the next day. I

Oh yeah and exactly how much do I feed them with the liquid fry food? As well do I just add the drops directly in the tank? Thanks for your help
