I have one male and two female platies. The first time, I left them in the community tank with decent amount of java moss and ferns. All but one fry survived which is now around 1cm and growing well.

This time, I grabed one female and dropped it in the separate 10g tank and hoping to get higher survival rate. When I came back from work earlier today, I saw two little fries (I suspect it's been about 1 month since she gave the fries the last time). These are much smaller than the ones I detected in the community tank the first time, and are rather close to being colorless.

The question is, how long does it take for the female to complete her brooding process? (Is that the right terminology?). Does it take hours or days? Should I take the female back into the community tank?

Appreciate any feedback!

i'm not possitive, but you should keep her in there for now. Mine only hade one and it was in the breeder. Some people say theirs have up to 10.

sorry, im talkin about guppies. It should be the same though.

at least 24 hr if you netted her and moved to other tank... if you remover from places too soon she may die after she droped. cuz it happend to me. ( they are tired and stressed )

She's been there for about one week, so I doubt she will die right now... So I should keep her in the same tank for 24 hours??? Wouldn't she eat most of the fries?

She is much more active now than she ever has been since she was added to the tank - this must be the sign that she is done with the fries, no?

Appreciate any feedback from the experienced ones... :D

Thanks for the suggestions...

I just found that one of the fry is dead, and wondering why it did... I just checked the water parameters, and pH = 7.0 (added tiny bit of baking soda to get there), no ammonia or nitrite. (I used the gravel and sponge from fully cycled tank, so I never saw any ammonia or nitrite in this tank). I use a sponge filter in this tank.

I just setup a brine shrimp hatchery - I should be able to feed these to them tomorrow... :D
