Wish I'd noticed earlier you were a neighbor. Check out CMAS (Chic. Marine Aquarists Society) and their forum on Reef Central.

For more rock, check out Menard (Reef Dweller is his store), or a variety of online sources. Not necessarily saltwaterfish.com!!!

But avail yourself of the CMAS community. When your tank has been running a few months feel free to contact me for frags...

frags as in fragments? becuase tecnicly the tank has been running for 9 years but not in my house

iight-thanx
btw- I'm new to the whole saltwater thing, if you get live rock from a store and take it home, do you need to cure it? I am very new, I just set up my tank as saltwater 3 days ago. it just has sand, live sand and a filter.

Thanx
DD

well at the store they take a large role or brown paper, soak is, bag it with a weeeee bit of water, and bag it twice. Word of advice, www.saltwaterfish.com!
they have the best deal! you go anywhere and get only 10lbs of florida live rock for 100 bucks instead 100 bucks there gets you a definate 20-25 lbs. lol If only my mom went with the deal before we went to the store lol.

Most stores I've seen around here that sell live rock sell it for $5.99/lb.... or that one store sells pieces that are heavily encrusted with purple coraline algae for $7.99/lb... I think. What did they charge at your store?!

make sure its cured - or you may have problems...

if its cheap LR then its normally not cured...

General rule of thumb.... if you order it over the internet, it's gonna be uncured. If it's at a local fish store sitting in a tank of water.... you should ask to be certain, but it's probably already cured. That's why these places on the internet are so cheap.... there's gonna be work and curing time involved before it can go in a tank.

I agree. I use a few internet sites for ordering things like live rock but i know these esablishments very well and know that they sell quality cured live rock.. Its very easy to order from online stores and get sold uncured rock which will really cause trouble if you have stock in the tank already (not to mention the smell  )

For folks in the US, www.tampabaysaltwater.com

It is cured, it is good, and the hitchhikers are awesome. Never ordered myself but seen several tanks stocked with their rock.
