Got Some Good News And Some Terrible News

Well its gotten worse, after his parents told him off, punished him, He then decides to take a hammer and smash my tank *MAD AS HELL FACE*  Water everywhere, First priority was to save the fish, so I put the fish into the 200g, drained the tank, Worse day of my life, Will the fish be alright in there for now until HE pays for another tank?

What a day?!

Hes banned from my house FOREVER.

Oh, no. That's horrible! I'm so sorry! What a beast of a child! He's likely headed for a bad, bad place as an adult. Oh, I'm just sick to my stomach ...

The fish should be all right for a while. Just keep doing more frequent water changes than normal to keep up with the added bioload.

Again, so, so sorry.

I think you may be right, Thanks I appreciate it ;),
Hes paying for a new 100 gallon though, well rather his parents are, I really cannot believe he would do this.

I don't think it'd be overstepping the mark to tell the police about that.

It might sound dramatic but what if it had been your car window on the way out?

Juvenile or not, I would report that. It's wilful criminal damage.

Question: what are a 12 and 14 year old doing at your house at this time of day when they should be at school?

I think he'll be visiting with the police soon enough, and hopefully you won't be involved. What a shame. I just hope his parents make him work off the cost of the new tank.

I would've been tempted to take his head off, then got him to pay for ALL the damage, carpets, flooring, stand etc on top of a new tank.

Phew, take it you're not buying xmas presents for him and his brother then?

Their school is closed for a week, they were with my Grandad who fell asleep upstairs

No presents for them, Im still considering whether or not to tell the police.

Well his parents have assured me he will pay, so far theyve told him theres no christmas for him or for them as there will be no money since its all going on the tank, The usual punishment - no tv, phone, computer, no doing anything, just staring at a blank wall, Its his birthday next month I was going to buy him a tank - what a mistake that would of been, Hes getting no presents either, Im not sure if this is extreme but his parents said they will not even acknowledge his birthday when it comes.

I would have had no hesitation in calling police unless it was all fixed today. You've now got the worry of possible incompatible / stressed fish in your main tank.

Sorry for rant but I'm a teacher and some kids need to learn the hard way.

Anyway well done on car boot find

I'm a mom of 2, and have 9 neices and nephews, ranging in ages from 5 to 24. One, who is 8, has a lot of anger and disrespect issues (long story...very crappy parents). His dad is an alcoholic and drug addict, who's been in and out of jail more times that I can count. My Mother-in-Law keeps bailing him out and letting him stay with her until "he gets better" (read: no consequences).

I don't know how the laws are in the Uk regarding juveniles vs. adults, but here in the states if they get in trouble as a juvenile (< 18 years old), unless they are tried as an adult they get a clean slate when they turn 18 (for the most part...depends on if they straigten up and stay out of jail/trouble). If this kid destroyed your tank, and probably carpets, etc. too. YOU NEED TO CALL THE POLICE. There NEEDS to be consequences. Sounds to me lilke Mom and Dad aren't strict enough if the kid will do this with them around. You'd do him a favor.....strict consequences now as a kid will prevent MUCH worse as an adult.

I read this post to my 8 year old and he was HORRIFIED. His jaw dropped, and he said "Mom - you'd ground me for a loooonnnnggggg time, and give me a spanking! He should know better!"....darn right!

Call the police, and have them deal with him, this kid needs some strong consequences and a good scare.....

I'm completely at a loss of what to say to this.

Blimey what a lot of high horses people are on.

Do you lot think the police have nothing better to do? Not to mention the damage it would do to family relations? Yes, technically, it is criminal damage, and I'm not trying make light of what the little wotsit has done, but please take something of a reality check.

lol @ considering a call to the police over smashing a tank by a family member. Is it just me or has parenting gone down the pan since i was young. I dont pay my taxes to pay for the police to visit plonkers like this thats for sure. :D

99% guarantee the parents will ensure he has all his birthday and xmas presents too :D

Hope you get a new tank soon, enjoy!

I think the kid is seriously disturbed. And it's not up to the OP to parent him. Good enough that he's banned from ever going over there again.
