Hi all. I'm new to the site and this is my first post.

In December I ordered some nerite snails to help with the brown algae that is developing in my tank. Due to the Christmas period these have only arrived today. Unfortunately in the last two days I have had to apply some deworming solution to help with a problem and this is completely uncompatable with the snails, I believe it contains copper which my local fish store warned would kill snails or shrimp.

Is there anything I can do to help save the snails before I am able to put them in the tank, which most likely would be Friday after this treatment ends.

Many thanks for any answers.

put them in a bucket of dechlorinated water and add a couple of plants. wash the plants under tap water before putting them in with the snails. change the water every day or two and away you go.

copper doesn't kill intestinal worms in fish.
any idea what the deworming product is called and what the ingredients are?
also what type of worms do your fish have?

Hi. Thanks for your reply.

The product is ntlabs anti fluke and wormer. It does state on the label it will kill snails and shrimps. The store owner stated it contains Copper.

I'm unsure what worms we have. I have lost a few mollys and made a video of the fish behavior and took advise from the store that it was worms. They said it looks like a worm infection. As I have lost 3/5 it made sense to get advise from the store.

All other parameters within the tank are fine. They double checked my reading of Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, pH and all were fine.

NT labs anti fluke and wormer contains flubendazole and that will treat round and flat worms so it should clear out any worms in the fish.

Make sure you don't have carbon in the filter when using medications because the carbon will remove the medication from the water and stop it working.

Do a 75-80% water change and complete gravel clean 24-48 hours after treating.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

Clean the filter too. Wash the filter media/ materials in a bucket of tank water and re-use the media./ Tip the bucket of dirty water on the lawn.

Re-treat the tank each week for 3-4 weeks to kill any baby worms that hatch.

You can put the snails in the tank between treatments and just remove them before you do a treatment. Just do a big water change a few days after treating and then put the snails back in the tank.
