Well I got my first plec today and was really wanting a Zebra one but Shirley Aquatics had them in but was charging £110 so I decided to look for something else. I went to my lfs and he suggested the Imperial one which cost £28. I tried searching to check I'd got the right one but it keeps coming up with Zebra ones and no pictures of mine.

Is it an Imperial?

Would like to think I got my money's worth whatever it is but would also like to make sure I get the habitat right for it. So far its got bogwood in the tank and some plastic caves and lots of plant cover. Its in with some cories and my juvie female bettas. The lfs guy told me to feed variety of algae tabs and bloodworms etc.

oooh those are lovely Paul but a little orange compared to mine

It looks just like yours smithrc! Very striking yellow :)

So its not an imperial then  will these lfs ever get their plec names right :grr: hope I didn't pay over the odds for it at £28

anything upto £30 is 'normal' for the slightly unusual plecs

They are a lovely looking plec - AndyJ on here is currently looking to get 4/5 for a species tank :D

hello

i hope you dont mind me asking, but the LFS i work at has a zebra for £59, i love that little fish but have been worried my boss was over pricing it? what do you think? i would love one, as i am looking for a tiny plec for my new tank.

what other plecs are pretty as a zebra if he is out of my price range?

hope you can help

I would have had it for £59 for sure! My lfs guy told me it cost him £70 from his supplier and then you need to add VAT and his profit margin obviously

Where are you located?

I was all prepared to make a species tank for it and everything but £110 was out of my league as I wanted at least 3 of them :-( but I like my new guy

Wow if that cost him £70 i would expect to see it with a price tag of about £160.

with VAT out the way he's only going to make less than £30 on that fish after it's been fed aswell.

Although I'm not sure if I would shed out that much for such a small fish now.

a leopard frog is a great buy though, very pretty.

i am near huntingdon cambs, i want to get it now! but my tank is so new i dont want to put the little guy through a new tank set up!

he is very nice tho, worries me as i clean the tanks and he hides behind the pipe! the amount of times i have thought he had gone!

we have had him in the shop for a while and no one sees him as he loves his pipe, bet i will just be ready for him in a few weeks and he will sell!!

thanks for the encouragement, hubby will have a fit ! themarine tank costs enough as it is!

Reserve the Zebra plec then get it in a week or 2, whenever your tank is fully matured. Zebras can be fragile but as long as your water is clean and you aren't overfeeding it would be fine :) Just make sure you acclimatise it to the water correctly.

As for SmirthC's Plec, not sure really, i disagree that it is a leopard frog, looks more like a tiger plec or something. It would help to get a better picture showing the plecs pattern better as it is hard to tell just from a profile picture.

OK. had to disturb him out of his bogwood but managed to get most of his pattern on a pic. I know he must have heaten algae because I've seen green poop in the tank along with the brown  but as yet he's only come out at night as I saw him scooting around this morning before I put the lights on.

That's definitely an L134, Leopard Frog pleco. Congratulations, they're neat fish!
