Nearer Christmas I may be getting myself a 90 gal tank. The thought has occured to me I could then use say my 70L tank as a sump!

From what little I know it could have the following advantages:

1) A 90 gal tank could just have a fluval 3plus on display or even not at all.
2) heater could go into sump
3) many options for filtering open in the sump, even thought maybe the return pump could be under a perforated plastic sheet so above it could have substrait (hhm substrait and fluval filtering?)
4) could perhaps keep cleaning shrimp in the sump without fear of them becoming a fish snack
5) adds water volume to the display tank above thus adding stability.
6) Any playing around with heating/filtering equipment does not disturb the fish.
7) so much easier during water changes, also again less disturbance for fish.

SO has anyone got any links to guides on various sump setups? I'd love to see them. The mighty google is not being too helpful on this.

Already I've found the best method or at least most practical is a fool proof hang on the side overflow and the sump then has a return pump.

So long as the overflow depends on the water being returned to the main tank there is no chance of problems, such as during power cuts.
