Got Another One!

instead of bringing donna with me to school, I bought another don't know what i'll name her yet, she's really small and blue and silver. i'm keeping her in a 2.5 gal tank. she's the sweetest little thing. i've developed a bit of a fish hypochondria, i'm always convinced my fish are sick. i did notice a teeny tiny bit of a copperish color around her gills. is that normal?

I'm the same way. I notice every little change in my fish and decide they have some ailment or another. (This behavior is probably a result of spending too much time on the fish disease forums and reading up on symptoms!) There has been only two times that the symptomes I think I've seen are actual diseases.

she's so tiny she cant swim against the current from the filter. it kind of just pushes her around so i have it off for now. would it still work if i only turned it on for like a few hours every day?

No the filter needs to be on all the time (its ok if the electricity goes out or you turn it off during a water change but otherwise it needs to be on.) I'd recommend getting a sponge filter or a whisper 3i as those don't really have a current
