Ok....after I bought my first betta, Solomon, a little over a week ago. I knew I'd be getting another one soon. I went to Petsmart today to get Solomon some medication for his/my first case of ich. While I was there, there was one little guy that just stood out amongst the rest. He's a GORGEOUS orange...mostly solid color, but with some flecks of white/light blue and black here and there. And he's got a spade-shaped tail. I'm in love! I picked up his cup and we locked eyes....ok ...enough. Suffice it to say I brought him home. I named him Samson (which means like the sun). He's such a sweetie. And doesn't have nearly the temper Solomon does (ironic since Solomon means peacable).

I put their tanks next to each other for a bit to see how they'd react. Of course Solomon had a coniption  , flaring and darting all over his tank. It took Samson a while to even notice Solomon's existence. Once he did, he flared a bit, puffed out his gills, etc. But didn't dart around like Solomon. Then Samson calmned and went and did his own thing. Even after I moved their takes apart, Solomon was still darting about flexing his muscles. I had to laugh....I think Samson's a little more secure in his masculinity :D

Anyway...just wanted to share that I now have a couple of boys. :)

(p.s. check out my post about Solomon's ich...looking for some advice)

Congrats on your new baby. I knew you were going to go out and get another. It's addicting! Mine did the same thing, one would flare alot but the other doesn't.

I hope you enjoy your new member of the family. :D

Wow, I got bit by that betta bug in Petsmart today too!!! (I hear the theme song from Twilight Zone now....) I got my first one about 4 days ago. My 4 yr old daughter begged me for weeks. (We have two new-ish 10 gal tanks w/ two goldies, so we are at the lfs alot...) Anyway, Togepi, the first one, is in a 2 1/2 gal. 'ocean'. He's the 'mutt' type, black/blue/red veil. Today....we were at Petsmart, and we ended up looking at bettas. I've been wanting a red one (but that's not what my daughter picked), so I found a gorgeous big healthy male (with a different shaped tail than veil). But then something caught my eye. It was a pretty little red and white male. All the other cups had clean water, but not his. He looked so sad and neglected. I spent a few minutes trying to chose, and then decided to get them both! They are in one gal bowls. Togepi and the red male are in the dining room, but I put the little one on my dresser next to my computer so I can give him extra attention. The new ones haven't been named yet, but I can tell that big red is very dominant, so maybe King would be fitting. Not sure about the other one.

Valentine is a cute name.

Ok...I know I got Solomon first. And I love both my boys...and I try not to have a favorite. But darn it if I'm not totally in love with Samson!! He now eats from my hand and get so excited when I come up to the tank I think he's about to have a heart attack! I just love that little guy.

I think he's younger than Solomon cause he's smaller. He's just so active. Solomon doesn't get that excited when I come up to the thank. But he knows when I have food. Sometimes Solomon reminds me of a cat...you know those cat personalities. Samson's more of a little puppy dog.

They both have their own little personalities, which is cute. Solomon's like the old guy who's been around the block a few times, while Samson is the new kid on the block who's never seen the world.

Ok...enough of my rambling. But I know you guys understand...I think my friends think I'm way too into my fish. ;)

You only have two bettas? That's all? You haven't run out and got more? You havent got a bigger tank and start a community tank? How did you restrain yourself? You know what happened to me? :look:

After my betta died( :-( in June after 3 years with me), I had an empty tank waiting for new fish, so I went out there and got two guppies(male and female) and one black skirt tetra all in one gal tank. Yeah I know, that is a big no-no since it's suppose to be one inch per gal, but I didn't know that then. So here I'm enjoying my fishies and I joined this forum and learned alot. The more I learned the more addicted I got. :hyper: So next thing I know I got baby guppies from the female which means I needed a bigger tank. :fun: So I ran out and got me a 5.5 gal tank(at the time I was pretty broke and can't afford any bigger), set it up and started my tank by putting the guppies and black skirt tatra in the big one and leave the fry in the one gal tank. :) You'd think I would be happy with all those new babies. NO. :X I want more! :hyper: So I ran out and got another black skirt tatra and two bottom feeder, albino corys. A week later, I ran out again and got myself two male bettas. One for my community tank and one in my new one gal tank. You think that was enough? NO. :X I want more. Something missing. Ah, came across the cutest tutles. I came home and did research on turtles for the next two days. Got my information, and out again I go to get two new baby red eared sliders. My mom :S is thinking I'm getting carried away, but my husband B) don't. Right now, I'm satisfied :) , but if I get this itch to get something I really need to restrain myself! These turtles are going to need bigger and bigger tanks so I will have to save up and prepare. Later when the time is right, I'll continue my tank and fish collections. For now, I think I just better enjoy what I have. :p

LOL...believe me it's been a test of my will and I've been using a tremendous amount of restraint. I go to the LPS just about every other day, just to look around (this, of course, is NOT helping my restraint).

Yes, I've been wanting to buy more bettas (I just love those fish  )...and I've been thinking of getting a larger tank for some different types of fish. But right now, I know my budget, etc. So that helps keep me from going totally crazy...although I want to.

This fish thing is addicting :hyper:
