i love this fish but i didn't realize how bi they actually got, i was hoping to trade or foe something smaller but not to small for my 40gal tall.

would anyone even be interested to trade, i don't want much just pleco of some sort or a male Australian rainbow fish or even a smaller cat fish would be awesome.

I dont think anyone will.

You made a mistake in buying it so you pretty much gotta look to give it someone for free in the interest of the fish I think.

Try local public aquariums etc.

I agree with the doctor - these fish are sold far to commonly and I dont think there is anyone on this forum who will be able to trade with you perhaps try and take him back to the store?

As for swapping him for something the fish you listed you could do to do a bit of research from perhaps - like the rainbow needs a school and common plecs will outgrow the 40g as well.

Cory catfish would be great for that tank but there is a whole host of similar small cats that would do well in there - I really like Tatia catfish you get some great patterns on some of them and they only stay small. South American Bumblebee catfish are cool too but be careful not to get the asian bumble bees as they are larger and more predatory :)

my mom bought it. she had it in a 30 so i took it and i'm looking to see if anyone would want it. i'm thinking the pet store that just opened might take it for his display tank at least. i don't know what i'm gonna do with it if it doesn't get taken.

i'm actually hoping to find a royal pleco. i saw one not to long ago but i had no money. i doubt it's still there but i at least know where i can get them.
also i'm thinking i'm gonna do an angel and apisto tank so i don't know if i want many bottom dwellers. though i'm hoping my red tailed shark will be fine. though i'm doubting it

Royal plecs get too big for a 40g - they usually grow to about 18 inches and a very very chunky fish. King Tiger plecs and/or Queen Arabesque would be ideal plecs for your tank size.

The RBTS should be okay with angels and plecs but not sure how it will interact with the apistos.

my brother says they should be fine. he also said if it doesn't kill the angels withing 3 days they should live forever.
obviously not always the case but i'm hoping for the best

About the Royal Plec? I mean its upto you but personally I think its only fair to give a fish room to turn around in a tank if not more and in a 40 gallon tank an 18 inch plec will not be able to do that.

Here is some info on one of the smaller strains of royal plec maxing out at 13 inches though http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=151 - normally for any plec this size a 6x2x2 180 gallon tank would be considered a suitable tank not a 40 gallon.

Hoping for the best is not the approach you should have in this hobby, without sounding harsh you've made some bad decisions so far in terms of potential stock in your tank, stick with livebarers, smaller cichlids, tetra and some of the more basic catfish (corys, otto's etc...) in a tank your size i think it would look better with smaller fish where you could have more, rather then a few bigger fish.
Angels are out of the question they requite at least a 3x2x2 tank to be happy due to the depth of the fish. Apisto's would be ok, but you'd struggle to add much with them unless you put them in last (they wouldn't have territory to defend) or re-arrange the tank everytime you add fish if you put them in first.
with most Cichlids, they tend to nip fins, so anything like Angels, Betta, the longer finned varieties of guppies, mollies etc... wouldn't last long in their.
Why not get a pair of Keyholes, one of the most easy going species of Cichlid their is.

If you need ANY help at all with your new setup, drop me a message on here, and i'll be more then happy to help
hope this helps. :good:
