Good price for a Crowntail?

I found a gorgeous crowntail at the LPS a couple days ago priced at $13.99 US. Is that too much for one? When I walked in there it did, but now that I think about it, that's about normal isn't it? *sigh* Me and my cheap ways...I should have bought him..

depends on the quality of fish actually. i paid $20 for one from a local breeder, he was a pretty nice betta though..

I agree with bkk that it depends on the fish. A really nice breedable/showable crowntail male can go for upwards of $50. However, most of the ones you find in any ol' petsore are just mutts. I would say that's probably overpriced for one, if it was. Around here I can sometimes find crowns at Walmart for what, $4? And the only other store I know that carries them does charge more than for veils, but only for about $6 or $7.

I can't really say, I am extremely lucky to have a lfs (specializes in cichlids) that sells crowntails for 3.50 and halfmoons for 11.99. They aren't mutts either a very reputable breeder nearby buys alot of his stock from there.

My lfs sells crowntails for a dollar more than the veiltails. $13.99 I would say is a ripoff for anything but a good breeder. For that kind of money I would want to know it is healthy (from a reputable breeder) and a bit of it's history (what were it's parents at the very least and mabey what it's grandparents were) and with an LPS or LFS fish you aren't going to get either of those things.

But then again, if you have no other way of getting a crowntail other than via shipping (which would cost a ton more due to the shipping cost) and you REALLY wanted one, then it might be worth it for you.

LFS here with crowntails sells them for $5 (veiltails are $3).

I wish I had a place nearby that sold them for $14... I'd be taking my future spawn there.

I'd pay 13.99 if any place around here had CT's =\ I really kicked myself for not buying the short tail betta (could have been a Plakat maybe?) that one lfs had here about 2 weeks ago. I'd kill for anything other than a veil tail.

Most Crowntails I have found in the LFS are not of show quality, and therefore usually listed at $3.99-$4.99 or so. Breeders that list online and such usually sell show-quality CTs and that is why they're more expensive. I think they're certainly worth the money.

$13.99 is a ripoff IMO.

I found a tank with lots of plakats for 4 euros each. They were sold as normal betta females and most of them really were. I bought three, 2 males and one female. They are beautiful

Normal betta males are here about 7 euros, crowntails about 12. I haven't seen any halfmoons or such. But I bought my black (or well, brown) male for 7 euros =)

I'm from Broadway but since I'm sure you don't know where that is (its in the middle of Bum **** Egypt) i'm about 10 minutes from Harrisonburg. If you sell any of your bettas to pet shops in the northern Va area though I'm up there all the time.

Up to $30.00 for better quality at my LFS. Problem is, they hardly ever have em!
They're getting some in next week. I'm so excited! I want one!
