I posted this in another thread, but it's rather buried, so I thought I'd share it here too.

I had to call PetSmart to make a complaint call this morning, and the manager I spoke to told me something I was VERY happy to hear. He said that in all new PetSmart stores, they're installing betta barracks! They'll be housing bettas that way rather that in tiny cups. He said they'll be going back later to convert all the older stores to that, too, but it should be happening soon.

Thought that was a major step in the right direction for bettas everywhere!

Great news! Hope it happens at the Petsmart near me, I go and they are in little itty bitty cups. Poor things. And the water is never more than half full. They use coffee cup lids to keep them in. They do condition the water with something though, the water is always blue.

My petsmart keeps them in pretty large cups, and they all look pretty good in general, but the water in the cups is too cold! Its about 72 at the very most. Fortunately, thats about the only thing wrong with my petsmart, aside from selling tiny, cute oscars to beginners with 10 gallon tanks...

for a minute a fraction of one i thought you were going to say they were closing them all...........   but yes fantastic news could this be your doing........... :D

Man, you're cracking me up tonight  But no kidding. I went into a Petsmart today for the first time in forever. We stopped by after a b-day party down the street, just to see the animals that were up for adoption day. They had 4 week old kittens with masking tape for collars  It was crazy and pathetic. They take good care of their bettas though, but a barracks will look kick ass.

I know this is off topic... But masking tape for collars? Why is the only question that comes to mind. That is totally senseless.

:dunno:
I dunno. But it's true. I fumbled with them and saw em with my own eyes. Of course this was just IN Petsmart, I believe that the cats are brought in from somewhere else. A shelter a few towns over. I wanted to take it off of them but they were numbered and yada yada yada. I just consider myself lucky that I got out of there without any kittens  It was a close one.

Wouldn't that be nice? heh heh
I don't know if it was personally my doing, but I would have to imagine that everyone here that complained to them helped! :)

And wuv - the last time I went into a PetSmart on adoption day, I had to walk REALLY quickly by the cat cages and get the heck outta there. There was one there named Willy - he had only one eye. He had lost the other one due to an infection. That was just the kind of cat I would drag home with me. The fact that i have several fish, a couple of guinea pigs and am very allergic to cats sort of steered me away from bringing one home, but man....

thats awesome
down here in the land of Aus, some lfs have betta barracks(around 3/4s of a gallon, but all the bettas get sold everyday...atleast at my lfs(used to work there))
and the lfs i visit the most because they put customer and fish before selling, have their bettas in 1 gal for each betta :hyper:

still great news its happening in other places, now if we can only get to walmart....
