Hey guys, Ive finished planting my community tank, betta tank and shrimp tank now but im lacking low level plants.
I have crypts and stuff but nothing low enough for that foreground balance I want so I'm on the look out for a good, fast growing low tec plant I can make a carpet from.

I was thinking of riccia but heard its a pain in the butt to keep in carpet form as it likes to all end up floating on the surface  and then I though maybe some dwarf hairgrass but I already have enough "grassy" plants in there.

Any suggestions on what could be used that will give a nice dense carpet and easy to plant/grow in sand? I have good lighting and dose Flourish if that makes any difference what-so-ever :look:

Thanks

I got a lot of Xmas moss at the moment and its quite slow growing and it only seems to go up rather than out which would mean making the carpet with a LOT of moss to begin with, or is there a moss that will "branch out" as well as shoot up?

im not sure tbh ... but moss carpets are done

Thanks, ill look at some different kind of mosses to get an idea of what I want.

Anymore suggestions?

you could try HC you never know you might get away with it with no CO2.... i cant think of anymore that we haven't said atm

I'd use Riccia, it's fast growing, keep it trimmed and it will stay low and not end up on the surface. Or HC, if you have good flow and are prepared to throw in a little excel.

Hmmm swaying towards just giving Riccia a try, cheap, easy/fast growing, looks good. So aslong as it's trimmed regularly it should stay as a carpet and not a roof?

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated :good:

You will get the inevitable bits on the surface but just keep it clean, as it does collect dirt, keep it trimmed and you should be ok.
