I just picked up the 2005 Annual Aquarium USAfor some articles on beginner cichlids and an article on Killifish. I normally wouldn't bother posting regarding something like this, but I thought the article on the Killifish was VERY good. It puts to rest many of the horrible myths about killifish (and caring for them) that have developed over the years. The article is about 8 pages with lots of beginner info on how easy these fish are to care for (most varieties, there is always an exception). The most crucial part of caring for killies is to ensure your tank is COMPLETELY covered. Other than that, they can live in most any water conditions, even a pair in a desktop planted tank with no heater or filtration. Makes sense when you consider their natural habitat is small puddles... It also points out the even the "annual" varieties can and will in fact live much over a year, some reportedly 5- 10 years, but more commonly up to 3 years.
I was amazed at some of the things in the article. It covers aspects from myth and misconceptions, basic care, breeding, and the different varieties. If killies are something you've considered before but were skeptical for one reason or another, see if you can get ahold of this article, or ask away here...
