i have found a tank in my house it is very very small...

It measures 30cmx18cmx17cm it can hold around two gallons according to the tank calculator majiggydoodahh

Its all glass and has a plastic lid but no light at the moment, the only filter i have for it is one of these little filters.

i do have a proper heater i can fit diagonally in there but I didnt have a clue of what i could fit in it any ideas? or would it only be good for a small rearing tank for fry?

thanks,

it would make a great fry tank, or quarantine tank, for any new or sick, or very young, you could also do a shrimp tank, or a snail tank as they do better on their own and only need a small filter and regualar water changes, oooohhh or a betta tank for a male betta. di

Two-gallons is very small. To even keep it two gallons, you'd have to fill the tank to the top and NOT add any gravel as that'll take up valuable water volume. Also, the filter will take up space.

Fry would be an option, but if you're really dedicated to water changes, you could try a female betta (they can glide around more easily in smaller spaces than a male can). Hopefully I am not lectured by anyone here for that suggestion. ;)

What wattage is the heater you have? I have a 7.5 in my two smaller tanks and that doesn't heat up the tank enough except on the one of the two tanks that has a light.

a sparkling gourami like this? sparkly
or
a Scarlett badis like this? Scarlett

Just wanted to make sure i was looking at the right pics!

Would these guys not get lonely on their own?

Would it be fair to put a male betta in this size tank? i know they are kept in smaller ones in shops but i wasnt sure!?

and ohh a shrimp tank shrimps can be interesting hmmm i didnt realise i had a few choices now...

I wouldn't put a betta in that tank but either the badis you pictured would be fine along with a few shrimp, just make sure that the media in the filter is mature from another tank.

The gourami you pictured is not a sparkling gourami, do a search for Trichopsis pumila

well the heater was actually a questionable item, its a 50watt heater from Boyu which fits in the tank diagonally and is designed for slightly larger tanks, i wasnt sure if i could use this one or if i would have to get a smaller one?

Go for a smaller heater, and yes that's the fish, although they're rarely that colourful.

would it be the same with them with a few shrimp as well?

I think i will have to weigh up my options to be honest!

Hi bezzo89 :)

A two gallon tank is a handy thing to have. It can be quickly put into service as a hospital tank if needed. Even without a filter or heater it would make a lovely home for 2 African Dwarf Frogs. I have a pair of them in that size tank myself.

Never considered frogs either to be honest hmm they wuld be an interesting difference, what do they feed on?

They do well on live blackworms, frozen bloodworms or pellets that are made for them. :)

ohh right, do they differ from fish much in their requirements?
in the way of water changes, temperature hardness etc?

Thanks
