Hi, just been down my lfs, looking for my first plants, tank is still in fishless cycle, so looking for fast growing, hardy species.

My list taken from here were ludwigia, rotala and wisteria. Others mentioned included amazon sword, anacharis, elodea and giant valis.

One of the guys in the store, who seems genuine (and knowlegable) pointed me towards these:
Hygrophila polysperma, fast growing, easy to cut back. Amazon sword, slow growing but hardy and valis, but not giant, says that gets way too big.

Would people agree looks good plants to start with?

Thanks

Hygrophilia Polysperma and straight or twisted vallis are very fast growing hardy plants, so would be a good choice.

the only thing about amazon swords is you need a nutrient-rich substrate. I found that amazon swords grew like weeds until they hit the surface where they calmed down. So that makes me not sure on the slow growing point?!
