I'm still having trouble deciding on what to put in my tank. What would be a good centerpiece for a 29G besides Angelfish? I plan to stock Danios,Tetras and non aggressive Barbs, like Cherry, and Rasboras. What would be a good centerpiece fish to go with these fish? Right now i am 3 weeks into cycling. I'm looking for something that will be eye catching but hardy since it's a new tank. Thanks.

Don't they get up to 5 inches each? That would be 10" of fish taking up room in my tank. What other numbers of fish could i get to compliment the Gourami's then? I want to maybe incorporate some red into the tank since i have a black background. What do you suggest and how many more small fish could i add?

It would be odd for them to get that large, perhaps 4 inches but ususally 3-3.5 is the norm. The tetras and rasboras you mentioned would be excellent compliments to the gouramis. Perhaps 6 small tetras like cardinals or neons and 8 harlequins would be nice. With a pair/trio of smallcories like Pandas or skunks for the bottom. Yes you will exceed the "inches per gallon" slightly, but these are not very dirty fish and you should have no problem with this load in the 29 gal. HTH :)

My water is pretty hard with a PH of 7.6. Would this be ok for Cardinals in a fairly new tank? Or should i substitute Glowlight Tetras for them?

Sure glow lights would be fine. THe cardinals like softer water but ask your LFS what their parameters are and if they are the same or close to yours then the cardinals would likely be fine as well because they would already be acclimated to the water conditions for your area. HTH

How about a pair of German Blue Rams?

edit: oops, didn't see the 'red' comment.

Dwarf gouramis stay smaller, and although they aren't red, they can be a pretty brilliant orange and/or blue.

I have thought of Blue Rams but am hesitant to add them to a new tank. I hear they can be sensitive.

A Red-tailed Black Shark. That's what I will use for my 20g long.

I wouldn't advise an angel in that size tank. Too small. I also wouldn't advise a RTBS, they get too big and territorial.

Gouramis are good or dwarf cichlids.
I thought it was the Black Sharks that grew to 12+ inches and the red-tail grows up to 6 inches max?
