Good Beginer Cichlids?

I do do alot of research. I'm actually starting a job as a aquarium maintainance person for a local company. The company also owns a pet store, which specializes in fish. So i can special order anything i want at market price. As for being called a beginner, i'm not a beginner, but a person who wants to expand his knowledge and experiment with many different types of fish.

Well, I think it depends on what you want to do. Do you want a dedicated species tank, a "community" of cichlids, a "community" of cichlids mixed with other species? Do you want plants in your tank? All of those factor into what cichlids to start with.

Also, there are some "peaceful" cichilids. Kribs, as have been mentioned, are relatively calm, and flat georgeous. You do have to watch them where they're "in the mood," though.
I also like Keyholes and Aequidens curvicepts. Although they are not as brightly colored, esp. compared to Africans, they are nontheless beautiful fish, have personality, will not kill your plants (if you want plants), and will get along with lots of other non-cichlids (if you want that type of tank). Keyholes are very community-oriented and mine would spawn in a 75g community tank.

Well, more food for thought.

Good Luck!
