I've finally gotten around to setting up a Pair of Goo's to spawn. The female actually jumped out today and as luck would have it I found her when she was still alive :flex: Good thing to, because I'm pretty sure she is the only female we have left :/
Anyway, she seems ok, and the male is the biggest and most colorful male we have. Hopefully he will care more about spawning than my Mogurnda did (Mo still hasn't been put back with his female :p) and we will get a couple fry out of them.
If anyone cares, I'll keep you updated

I'll try to :D The female is still getting over her incident and the male is a big beautiful chicken  Hopefully they will be settled into the tank soon :) I hope this pair of gudgeons is more interested in breeding that beating one another up

Just play some barry white, and light some candles, I find it really helps to get the fish in the mood.
JK But did you read the article about breeding the goo-obos? I forget which magazine, but the author suggests setting up a long horizontal cave along the front wall of the tank as one of the walls of the cave then tape some black paper over it so they feel comfortable. Then when eggs appear you just lift the flap so to speak and you can take great pictures of them. I don't know if that's clear enough to make any sense but it sounds like a great idea. :D

I did read it, but I have several caves either against the glass or facing the glass. I actually tried the paper, but I just took it off because I want the adults to get used to me :) Its funny that the breeder in the magazine almost lost his only female too  Actually, we just found another female in our big tank (we thought she died) so we have a second chance if anything happens to the first female :)

I'll give a description of the tank layout:
A lot of java moss
Sponge filter
A few flat rocks, pvc pipes, and half of a coconut shell made into caves (and all visible)
Scarcely scattered gravel
6" of water
76-78 degrees
Neutral pH
And I'm feeding them frozen treats frequently

The male had the female following him through all of the possible spawning caves, and then he got her into the coconut shell and started displaying :D Eggs soon... :hyper:

i'm looking into getting some goo's from rarefish myself and trying my hand at breeding them to offset the initial cost. my concern, however, is that there's a high likelihood that i'm purchasing a group of fry from the same spawn and that it's very likely that this spawn is directly related to all of the other goos sold by rarefish. thus, any further captive breeding will be inbreeding; at what point does this inbreeding result in unhealthy fish?

Seeing as I'm not what would be called an expert breeder, I usually let my spawning fish inbreed at least two times (after this it gets out of control and I stop all breeding). Lucky62's badis are continually breeding in his tank and the only noticable deformations on very few are the lack of a "nose" Their faces appear more flat in the front than they should.

So you should be fine with the obos for a few spawns.

Despite the behavior of my pair the other night, they have still yet to produce eggs :/

It'll be a while before they are big enough to breed [ if you're just getting them ], all I could say is to try breeding any offspring you get with either with a parent , or the parents siblings , rather than their own siblings..........then with parents parents and so on , follow me ? . ;)

I'm no scientist , not even sure if doing that would make any difference , but I think it will :S

well, i got out-bid in the last two minutes, but that's ok--that guy's paying through the nose. i really didn't want to spend that much money anyways.

i'm now looking into some sort of badis and something "Filamentosus" from Brazil. if i get another chance at goo obo's, i'll still take it, but in the meantime i'm going to investigate other options.

Badis burmanicus , AKA Ruber ? I thought about it , if those are around in a month I may get 6

Filamentosus ? Discrossus ? , if so that's a checker board cichlid . get 'em both

try the "buy it now " option with the gudgeons ...........better yet the Badis are free shipping ;)
