Before you guys all read this topic, I'll say firstly that the male and the female are okay, though it was a pretty freaky experience.

Okay, so my female guppy was giving birth, and since male guppies like to pass their genes on, they mate with the females like crazy while giving birth (stating the obvious, lol). So the male was mating with the female who was giving birth. I left the room for a couple minutes, came back, and I saw that the male guppy was stuck INSIDE the female. He was kind of crooked, and his gonopodium was stuck inside her!

Of course, she was freaking out, swimming everywhere in the tank, and since the male was almost on her back, when the female swam to the surface, the male was practically out of the water. I thought they'd be able to get unstuck themselves, but obviously not. They were like this for a couple minutes, (or more) while I sat there panicking, my brother laughing away and my Mom trying to think of a solution. Finally, my Mom suggested I stick a net in there and try to separate the two. The female got tired of carrying the male around and rested in the java moss. I saw my chance, stuck the net in the water between the two fish, and they separated easily.

Has anyone ever had this experience before? I thought it was the weirdest thing, too bad my brother didn't run down and get the camera like he soo wanted to, because it was surely a sight to see.

And like I said before, the fish are OKAY. The female is a little stressed, (But they always are before/during/after giving birth) and the male looks a little..... crooked.... But otherwise, they are all fine.

Thanks for reading,

**Oh, and she's had about 30 fry so far. :)

How was the male on top of the female? must have a long gonopodium to stretch right round and then underneath her lol

See, that's the thing, it's really hard to explain. He was kind of to the side and on top of her. His gonopodium looked REALLY strained, the poor thing!

Yeah, it was really weird! I'm surprised the male survived the ordeal; He was getting thrown around quite a bit! lol

lol!

I bet he wasn't complaining too much!

I'm glad they are both ok though!

LOL Even if I was a male guppy in that situation, I'd be panicking a little. XD

I'm happy they're okay as well.... Actually, the female died.... She had a bacterial infection, and I tried medicated food to no avail.... The infection got worse quickly, and she died just a few minutes ago. :/

Thanks, it's okay. :( The pet store that I volunteer at doesn't have the best reputation for fish, and I just brought her home to give her a good home and maybe get some fry.

Aww sorry to hear about your female. If you want some more i can give you some in about 2-3 months possibly.

Thanks guys. :/

I'm not going to get another one, because I now have 60+ fry to look after - the other female exploded today. (Not literally.)

And misscosmo - I'd love to take some fish off of you, but my guess is that you either live in the States or UK, and I live in Canada. (And if you live in Canada it's probably not anywhere near me) Thanks for the offer, though. :)

 That's what I was thinking. So technically the baby was stuck as well, because it was getting blocked by the male's gonopodium.
