Hey guys,

I was wondering what sort of treats goldfish like, because I'm sure flake food isn't enough for them. Occasionally I feed them de - shelled peas but I was wondering if there was anything else that they love. So I went on the internet and found this article saying they can eat raspberries? I've got a bag of raspberries in the freezer, but I'm not sure if it's safe.

Btw I've got to comets, if that helps.

So can they eat raspberries?
Oh, and another thing, do I have to thaw them first before I feed them?

Thanks :rolleyes:

I'd steer clear of the raspberries, to be honest; they may be safe, but maybe not...If you want to treat them, get some frozen bloodworm or something like that; defrost it first :)

They will love;
Bloodworms
Krill
Daphinia
Tubifex worms (though i wouldn't personally recommend these as they have been known to come from areas contaminated with raw sewage)

(This foods can be obtained in both frozen & freeze-dried form from most LFS but the frozen form is definitely the most nutritious and often the most enjoyed by fish out of the two :good: ). I would recommend the Bloodworms the most as they aren't too messy and Goldfish absolutely 100% love them (plus they are a very natural food for goldfish to eat). Daphinia are tasty for fish too but very small so difficult to measure out well. Krill are another good choice (i would put it inbetween the bloodworms & daphinia).

Plus they will also eat;

Algae wafers & Catfish pellets
(They may also show interest in heart of cucumber)

I would personally recommend TetraFin as a brand for goldfish food, particularly the TetraFin goldfish sticks, as they are nutritionally very well balanced and my goldfish LOVE them to bits (i once did a test on goldfish foods putting small quantities of different types of goldfish foods in the tank all at once & my commet & common goldfish went straight for the TetraFin Goldfish Sticks everytime as a first food choice :good: ). The goldfish also quite enjoyed the TetraFin Goldfish sinking pellets too (not recommended if you have a gravel substrate though);

Hikari Gold is also a high quality goldfish & koi food brand, they do a variety of different pellets for goldfish;

You could try brine shrimp and even cucumber.

Keith.

Mine get bloodworm as a weekly treat. They also eat cucumber and algae wafers/sinking pellets... and JMC catfish pellets (all my fish love these!)
