this might sound daft but i have had a pond with several goldfish and a few koi in it, its also got some wild fish... i have not had any goldfish or koi fry yet after a year, while a friend of mine had fry just a few months after setting up his pond, can anyone give me some tips?

Are you feeding them enought? Are the fry getting eaten or even the eggs?

the goldies are deffinitly of spawning age, the Koi might not be mature. However the local fish probably like carp eggs assumeing you have some plant matter in there that the eggs can be safe in and fry can refuge in then you should get a few, unles your pond is overstocked.

HTH

as i thought, my pond has very few plants in, and the ones that are in it are no good for fish to hide in, i am going to buy some plants in the spring anyway, that should help

Any plant is good for hiding, If the fish spawned you got thousands of fry some would have survived had they hatched. My bet is that the eggs are getting eaten if they are even getting laid.

My goldfish layed their eggs on some floated pllastic plants, maybe you could add something for the eggs to attach to, after I found the eggs i brought them inside

following ryans advice to me ->

Well if these are Goldfish eggs than they should be removed immediatly and placed in water no deeper than 6" and of the same temperature as the pond. After this gradually raise the temp to 70C and they should hatch in 3-4 days. The eggs that appear almost clear are fertile, the others are likely to have white fungus on them. After 48 hours of hatching they are ready to be feed on commercail liquid foods, then onto Baby brine shrimp and infusoria and so on.

my fish survived on just flakes but i kept them in a tank to themselves, the majority have survived and the are defininately intresting to watch grow some are almost three inches and other still only half an inch after about five months

thanks for the advice everyone, i do have some plastic plants that used to be in my tropical tank, i'll put them in right now
