I feel so sorry for goldfish in tiny little tanks where they can herdly move! :-( :-(
Why not give them a bigger tank and they will live 100x longer! When will people learn and treat fish like any other pet instead of like a thing which only needs food sprinkling in once a week.If you were a goldfish im sure you would rather live in
this pond than a bowl!

this pic is a good example of how big a goldie can get from the size you take it home to the size it can get

Thanks For Listening To Me Ramble On!!!!Ive Sed What I had To Say!

I agree, fancy goldfish can't be kept in ponds in the winter so if you do put them in ponds you have to fetched them indoors for the winter months.

I think that most people who buy tiny tanks for goldfish are just ignorant. Our first goldfish, when I was about 6, was in a five gallon tank. No wonder it only lived a few weeks. My parents love animals, but for years and years goldfish had been kept in BOWLS and died after months, so their whole generation was under the misconception that this was a normal lifespan and small containers are OK. I think we are seeing this same problem right now with bettas; everyone assumes you can keep them in cups and it is normal for them to live only a few months to a year, when in fact they really should have much more swimming space (I don't like anything under 5 gallons and prefer 10 for them since you'd provide that for any other fish their size, but no one will agree with me on this one) and have had recorded lifespans of up to 10 years with exceptional care.

if pet shops wouls educate the people on the proper sized tanks! :grr:
I had a goldie in a 2.5 gal once.It outgrew it and is now still alive in my neighbours pond!

Ah, but pet shops make more money off of people buying those little designer tanks and bowls and coming back every week to get a new fish because theirs keep dying. If most goldfish owners were told they need a mim. of 20 gal per fish, they'd probably never shop at the place again. Alas, money making + animals never leads anywhere good...

IMO it seems cruel expecting any fish to live in such a tiny bowl/tank.

Why do people think that goldfish just because they are cheap and easy to come by that they can be treated badly?

LOL when I am old enough to be able to complain without the 'stupid kid' speech, I will definately have something to say to pets at home... EG. *employee selling customer bowl* No you can't keep goldfish in bowls! They grow to over a foot long!' 'No, they grow to the size of their tanks....' 'Really? So, if I bought a kitten and put it in a jar, it would only grow to the size of the jar?' 'No! Thats horrible!' 'There you go then. You said it yourself'. :fun:
