Goldfish In A Small Container

I used to have a goldie in a bowl identical to this

but with coloured gravel. My sister then won one at a fair and it also got to live in there. Mine lived for 10 years  but my sister's ones didn't survive long at all. No filter or anything like that.
Mum would put the bowl in the sink, scoop the fish in to an ice cream tub with fresh tapwater in, then scour the tank out with tapwater until it ran clean. The fish would then be poured back in to the tank and put back on my bedroom windowsill. I even remember it living on top of the telly for a while  :/

Looking back on it I am amazed my goldie lasted that long!

I'm happy to say that the first goldfish I bought went into a 3000G pond. Mostly because I joined this forum first :)

That's the problem, bog standard goldfish are incredibly hardy fish, explaining to the person who kept a goldfish alive in a bowl for years that you wont sell the fish without a tank and filter that has been set up prior is pretty hard.
Course, for standard goldfish, 10 years isn't that long compared to what they are easily capable of if looked after properly.

yes i had goldfish in a similar effort to that bowl above, feel ashamed now, my dad used to keep trout( he caught) in my paddling pool in the garden, so stupid stuff was normal in my house( as a kid i might add lol)

I just told my fiance that I want to put one common goldie into a 55gal and watch it grow for 35 years. She told me I was nuts, and then followed with the "don't they do best in a bowl anyway?"

Even when people are constantly around proper fishkeeping, they still can sometimes be hard to convince...
