goldfish chasin other goldfish

hello all,

today i noticed that one of my fish was chasing some of the other fish going and chasing one and then going to chase another whats happening??? is the fish trying to breed with the other fishes or is he/she just playing

it could be breeding behaviour. if the fish has its head at the rear end of the other and seems to be pushing it then yes its probably breeding signs.
how big is your tank and how many other fish do you have? if the fish are quite small then they will be too young to breed and this behaviour is usually through excitement such as feeding. do you notice it more when you have fed them?
if the fish isnt pushing or nudging from the back then it could be a territorial thing if theres not enough space.
if the fish is harrassing one particular fish then you may need to seperate it so it doesnt get too exhausted and stressed.

hi,

there are to large fish at about 3 inches and 8 fish at about 1and a 1/2 inches and some at 1inch in a 3 ft tank by 1 and a 1/2 by 1ft tnk, it is the smaller fish doing it to the lrger fish and the smaller fish 2 and i would of thought that the lrger fish would be doing it for territorial reassons

is there any damage being done by the aggressor? 10 goldies in around 30 gallons of water is severe overcrowding and if theres no aggression then it wont be long before you see it.

no theres no damage done an dive had the tnk for a while and theyve always got on well, well wenever i see it

If you have 10 goldies in one tank you should really have a 120 gallon tank atleast for them. They may be small now but soon they'll be very large. And the rules are usually 20 gallons for the first fish then 10 gallons for each additional fish. Do some research next time before you get so many fish in one tank. No wonder they're being aggressive.

1nce theyve got to big i will give them to a pond and strt tropical

too small to breed.

I have a 500 gallon pond with about eight 9-11" goldfish and couple of 12" koi.

I didnt notice the chasing until they were about 6-7". Plus the temp have to be around 72-75 too.

Basically the males run along the females and chasing her around / splashing around the lilies.
