I have a 20gal planted tank and was curious if the Aplocheilus Lineatus would be a suitable choice for the tank. Saw one in the store the other day and it really caught my eye. Read that they can be aggressive and that they have a big eye and an even bigger stomach. I do have a larger 75 gal (284L) that it could be moved into when it gets to about 3 inches. The 20gal tank does have some water flow to it as the filter i use for it is on the bigger side consider the size of the tank.

would be my first killifish.

8x Cherry barbs 1.5-2"
2x 4" flying foxes

should be ok. The ones I kept weren't highly active and it will appreciate the plant cover you have.

Only get the single male though. I made the mistake of buying three and the dominant one bullied one to death and the other had to be rehomed.

would buying a male and a female work out well? or is just one male the best

I constantly keep these guys (curreltly got 1 in a ten gallon with a beta pair which i will never do again) and i have had mixed results. The first time i belive i had 2 males and a female and all was well until the tank busted and they got moved in a 55 gal with preadatory cats. Those ones did not bother the smaller community fish. I got 2 for my ten gallon that i set up and one did get bullied and killed by the other I think i got only 2 males this time. If you can manage to sex them which i dont remember how but you can find easily a male and female could work if they get along. with the plants you may even see some breeding. The one thing though is if you get large ones while your other fish are small they will get ate. just make sure the size difference is small and dont add any slove moving fish with long finnage like betas. My 2 veiltails got their veil of their tail ate so they look like a dog with a clipped tail :[

I was told that one male too two females works best if you've got the space. I'm currently looking for two female( natural colouring morph), sexing basic is males more colourfull and the anal fin is pointed at the end, females are rounded anal fins, that some info recently learnt thanks to the forum.

Slightly of topic that looks like a true Siamese algae eater not a flying fox.
